Pool entry cost ‘right’

Councillors have not fully considered the ramifications of a $4 entry fee to the city’s multi-million dollar Aquatic Centre, according to Councillor Tom Kennedy.

Cr Kennedy said he has decided to move a motion at this month's ordinary meeting against Council’s proposed doubling of the complex’s admission fees.

“I am not sure all councillors have considered the full ramifications of the decision to double the entry fee and the impact this will have on our community,” Cr Kennedy told the BDT.

People now have greater access to the city’s hydrotherapy pool after City Council extended the opening hours at the new facility.

Council’s General Manager, Frank Zaknich, said that since the warm water exercise pool was opened to the public in early December it had proven increasingly popular.

Mr Zaknich said that there had also been a number of requests for unrestricted access to the pool.

Mayor, deputy at odds on pool fee

Rising admission costs at the multi-million dollar Regional Aquatic Centre could hit attendance, according to City Council’s new Deputy Mayor.

Admission prices to the newly-refurbished site will remain at $2 while a Council report detailing revised fees and charges is put on display for 28 days.

Smart cards, multi-entry savings and pensioner discounts are just some of the options being considered as alternatives to $2 fees.
